De acordo com as conclusões, depois de uma dose AstraZeneca houve evidência de um risco aumentado de morte cardíaca em mulheres jovens. Esse risco não foi observado pelos pesquisadores com relação às vacinas de RNA mensageiro (mRNA), fabricadas pela Pfizer/BioNTech e Moderna.
A morte cardíaca pode incluir parada cardíaca, doença cardíaca e miocardite (inflamação do músculo cardíaco), segundo especificado no estudo. O risco foi 3,5 vezes maior nas 12 semanas depois da vacinação, em comparação com o risco a longo prazo, informou o ONS.
O estudo afirma, porém, que o número de mortes é pequeno frente ao número de vacinados. Foram 59 mortes decorrentes de efeitos adversos da vacina, segundo o ONS, e quase 145 milhões de doses aplicadas.
O risco 3,5 vezes maior entre mulheres jovens depois da vacina da AstraZeneca corresponde a seis mortes relacionadas a doenças do coração por 100 mil vacinadas com pelo menos uma primeira dose. Os dados referem-se às vacinações dadas entre dezembro de 2020 e junho de 2022.
Os pesquisadores destacaram, no entanto, que até abril de 2021, a maioria das mulheres jovens vacinadas com AstraZeneca eram profissionais de saúde ou pertenciam ao grupos de pessoas com comorbidades, que tiveram preferência na vacinação.
Por isso, o risco 3,5 vezes maior não pode ser generalizado para toda a população, disse o ONS, explicando que a condição de saúde dessas mulheres pode ter influenciado no resultado morte. Os pesquisadores concluíram, ainda, que não houve “forte evidência” de aumento do risco de morte cardíaca após a vacinação em homens jovens para qualquer tipo de vacina.
Em abril de 2021, a Agência Reguladora de Medicamentos e Produtos de Saúde (MHRA) da Grã-Bretanha confirmou uma ligação entre a vacina AstraZeneca e coágulos sanguíneos raros.
Em resposta, as autoridades recomendaram que menores de 30 anos recebessem uma vacinação alternativa para haver “maior equilíbrio” entre risco e benefício da vacina. O Canadá e diversos países da Europa suspenderam o uso da AstraZeneca. Nos Estados Unidos, a vacina dessa fabricante não foi aprovada.
O estudo do ONS se concentrou no público jovem considerando “particularmente importante determinar o equilíbrio entre risco e benefício em pessoas mais jovens, devido ao menor risco de hospitalização e morte por COVID-19 nessa faixa etária”.
