Nesta quarta-feira, 19, o Arcebispo Dom João José Costa negou ter renunciado o comando episcopal da Arquidiocese de Aracaju, que tinha emitido uma nota informando que ele havia pedido ao Papa Francisco o afastamento devido ao cansaço e às limitações de saúde.
“Olha, eu não pedi renúncia para deixar minha função de Arcebispo de Aracaju, foi uma decisão que veio de lá do Vaticano. Infelizmente, eu não gostaria de renunciar, de sair desta minha missão, tenho feito um trabalho muito precioso, para mim foi uma surpresa que me deixou bastante constrangido”, declarou Dom João.
Ao ser indagado ainda sobre a justificativa da Arquidiocese, de estar cansado e enfrentando problemas de saúde, Dom João também desmentiu: “Graças a Deus não, não tenho nenhum problema de saúde”.
O arcebispo também declarou não ver motivos para essa decisão e que seu sonho era continuar com a missão à frente do cargo, até o período que é permitido pelo direito canônico, que é de 75 anos.
